The village of Kikelelwa in Tanzania is home to the base camp of Wilding Safaris, for one simple reason: it is an 'off the beaten track' location. In fact many of the native villagers still live in their traditional built huts, in much the same way as they have done for centuries.

Located in the north-east foothills of the snow capped Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, at 19,343 feet, it is the highest free standing mountain in the world, and provides a stunning backdrop to the beginning of the wonderful African adventure.

We feel the location of our base camp is just as important as the locations we visit whilst on safari, because, our aim is to ensure our clients have the “Total African Experience” for the whole time that they are with us. Kikelelwa fits the bill perfectly...

On safari our locations are no less stunning – Amboseli, described by Earnest Hemmingway as “the very essence of Africa”, with its vast herds of elephants. The bull elephant have some of the largest tusks in Kenya... Still with us in the background, Africa giant, Mount Kilimanjaro, still finds us with its shadow. Lake Manyara lies to the south of Ngorongoro Crater, with its famed tree-climbing lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos and abundant bird life. Ngoronogoro Crater, probably the most spectacular sight you will ever see while on safari. Descends into the crater to see the herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, buffalo and the often solitary rhino.

Serengeti, probably the most famous wildlife park of them all, described as the greatest wildlife theatre on earth, is scene to the mass migration of millions of animals as they follow the seasonal rains in search of richer pastures, Zebras, gazelles and antelope, with the wildebeest alone often numbering over 2 million individuals.

While in Kikelelwa your accommodation will be in purpose built log cabins each with 2 bedrooms with twin beds, private bathroom with shower and w.c., kitchen area, sitting room and balcony. The balconies are positioned to face the rising sun, so that those who wake early enough can sit in comfort and enjoy the African dawn. . . such a spectacular sight, and what a wonderful way to start the day!!
